Introduction to Painting & Decorating Course Aim

This course provides an introduction into some of the key themes within the construction sector, enabling students to develop and apply their knowledge while also acquiring a range of relevant practical, communication and technical construction-related skills.

 

Who Should Attend This Course?

This level 1 Certificate is aimed at anyone who wants to either improve their existing skills or learn from scratch the skills needed to enter the construction industry.

Course Overview During this course, you will study the following two units:

· Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction (includes hazards, risks, accidents & more)

· Developing Painting and Decorating Skills (includes tooling, materials & practical sessions)

Candidates are assessed throughout the course through written, verbal and photographic evidence.

 

Level 1 Course :

Course Objectives Painting:

Learn the correct use of tools and techniques to achieve a professional finish.

•The preparation of ceilings, walls & woodwork, new and old surfaces.

•Repairing woodwork ready for painting.

•The application of a mist coat onto bare plaster. The application of water-based paints, primers, undercoats, emulsions & eggshell using brushes & rollers.

•Cutting in around obstructions openings & fittings such as windows, doors, radiators & switches.

•The application of oil-based paints.

•Painting walls and ceilings.

•Painting doors, frames, skirting, windows & radiators.

Carpentry is one of the world’s oldest professions, and to this day it is
a highly respected trade that is constantly in high demand. As a modern-day carpenter, you could specialise in installing doors, floors and
furniture in new builds, renovating or refitting existing structures, fitting
kitchens, building sets for film and theatre companies and much more.
you will be given the essential technical knowledge and practical skills
to carry out basic carpentry & joinery tasks:

Course Objectives Plumbing:

• Competently solder copper joints and apply compression and push fit joints. Joint and bend 15mm and 22mm copper tubing that is mains tested for integrity.

• Use Plastic plumbing pipework

• Install Radiators

• How to Install a Bathroom Suite

•How to Install an Outside tap

•How to Connect up domestic waste pipe work

•Carry out fault finding

•Learn about the pros and cons of differing household heating systems
